The Boys & Girls Club of Holland has been serving the local community for 50 years, and on Tuesday, Sept. 14 an event was held to kick off a celebration of this landmark with community members, alumni, families and friends in attendance.
There will be a variety of events throughout the school year to continue celebrating this milestone.
“The festivities included a dunk tank, bounce houses, kettle corn, ice cream and live music,” Club Executive Director Brian Tavernier said. “There was no cost to attend thanks to the generosity of the Kiwanis Club of Holland.”
On Sept. 14, 1971, the Boys Club of Holland was chartered. Over the decades the club has evolved and grown into the service it is now.
“Thousands of youth have come through the doors of the club over these past 50 years and thousands of youth have been impacted through the programs and the relationships formed with staff who truly care about their well-being,” Tavernier said.
“We are truly fortunate to have such a supportive community that works so hard to provide the resources and support needed to meet the ever-growing demand for youth services in Holland and surrounding communities.”
Special 50th anniversary T-shirts, magnets and yard signs are available for purchase at the club, and over $10,000 of prize money will be up for grabs, Tavernier said.
