THURSDAY, MARCH 5

Gardening Lecture-Tina Ames, Mother Earth News Writer and Instructor will present “Grow The Best Tomatoes Without Chemicals” at the Aurora Town Public Library on Thurs., March 5 at 6:30 p.m. Come learn about pest control, companion planting, growing from seed, transplanting, blight and more. Participants will get a packet of heirloom orange tomato seeds. The Friends of the Library sponsor this free program for adults 17 and over. Registration is required. Space is limited. FRIDAY, MARCH 6

World Day of Prayer-Join members of the First Baptist Church of East Aurora, 591 Porterville Road, for the World Day of Prayer. The event begins at 10 a.m. The ecumenical day of prayer is to promote peace and justice worldwide. Refreshments will follow.

SATURDAY, MARCH 7

Free Dinner-The Marilla United Methodist Church is hosting a free Irish dinner, with Irish stew and shepherd’s pie, plus dessert, on Sat., March 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Clann Na Cara Irish Dancers performance from 5 to 5:30 p.m. highlights the event.

Coaches Clinic-East Aurora Baseball and East Aurora Softball will host a Coaches Clinic on Sat., March 7 in the East Aurora Middle School gymnasium. Meet with modified and varsity coaches for tips, suggestions and a Q&A. The clinic is open to anyone planning to coach or assist this coming season. Baseball coaches should attend from 9 to 10 a.m.; softball coaches attend from 10:30-11:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.eabaseball.com.

Free Baseball and Softball Clinic-East Aurora Baseball and East Aurora Softball will host a free baseball and softball clinic in the East Aurora Middle School gymnasium on Sat., March 7. Baseball runs from 10 a.m. to noon; softball runs from noon to 2 p.m. The clinic is open to players ages 5 to 18 with any level of experience, and participants do not need to be registered for the season to attend. Free Movie-Come to a free movie at the Aurora Theatre on Sun., March 8 at 6:30 p.m. The Immaculate Conception Youth Ministry is sponsoring the Christian movie “Overcomer.” From the creators of the #1 box-office hit, “War Room,” life changes overnight for coach John Harrison after he loses his basketball team and is challenged by the school’s principal, Olivia, to coach a new sport he doesn’t know or like. Garden Club-The East Aurora Garden Club will host their annual spring potluck luncheon and meeting on Mon., March 9, at noon, in the activities room at Nativity Lutheran Church, 970 E. Main Street. Equipping for Disasters (New Date)– Come to the Aurora Town Public Library on Mon., March 9 at 6:30 p.m. for a demonstration of all the basic necessities for sheltering at home in a program by Dr. John Sterba. TUESDAY, MARCH 10

Crafting Event-Adults ages 17 and up are invited to the Aurora Town Public Library, 550 Main St., for “Unwind and Design: Mini Embellished Banner.” Join us for a relaxing evening of crafting Tues., March 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. All supplies will be provided. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11

School Fundraiser-Mandala School is holding a fundraiser on Wed., March 11, from 6 to 10 p.m., at 42 North Brewing. Learn more about this independent, creative, local non-profit school and enjoy the music of The Major 3rds, performing at 7 p.m. $1 from each pint sold will be donated to the school. All proceeds will be used for student scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year. The event will also be the beginning of Summer Camp sign-ups. Summer camps are held for three weeks in July. Early bird pricing for summer camp will be offered at the event for anyone who signs up.

THURSDAY, MARCH 12

Design Your Life-Come to the Aurora Town Public Library on Thurs., March 12 at 6:30 p.m. to set yourself free and be happy by designing your ideal life in three steps with author and happiness coach Susan Balogh. Copies of her first book, “100 Days of Actions & Intentions To Create the Life You Wish For,” will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation. Ten percent of all book sales will benefit the Aurora Town Public Library. This free program is for adults 17 and over. SATURDAY, MARCH 14

Book Donation Drop-Off-Books, CDs, DVDs, and puzzles may be dropped off at the Aurora Town Public Library, 550 Main St., on Sat., March 14, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., for the Used Book Sale to be held in June. No Reader’s Digest, encyclopedias, or VHS tapes will be accepted. For information or to arrange for pickup of books, call the library at 652-4440.

SUNDAY, MARCH 15

Pancake Breakfast-The annual St. Patrick’s Day Pancake Breakfast fundraiser held by the Colden Fire Company, 8448 Gutekunst Road in Colden, will be held on Sun., March 15 from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Meals cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and include all you can eat pancakes, sausage, french toast and eggs.

Pancake Breakfast-The annual “All you can Eat” Pancake Breakfast fundraiser held by the Kiwanis Club of Marilla will be held on Sun., March 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marilla Fire Company Recreation Hall, Two Rod Road and West Avenue. Meals cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and children under age 5 eat free. Take outs and raffle items are also available. Funds raised will be used for the community.

MONDAY, MARCH 16

Lions Club – East Aurora Lions Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Iron Kettle Restaurant, 1009 Olean Road. Serving East Aurora and surrounding communities since 1946 for vision needs and much more. Come be our dinner guests and see the good things we do. For more information call 655-4733. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18

Positive Thinking-The Aurora Senior Center and BlueCross BlueShield will present “The Power of Positive Thinking” on Wed., March 18 at 12:45 p.m. Come hear the impact of your thoughts, how positive thinking works and how to improve your ability to think positively. The center is located at 101 King St.

Pallet Painting-Come to the West Falls/Colden Community Library, 1966 Davis Road in West Falls, on Wed., March 18, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for beginner Buffalo Pallet Class. Hand paint a Buffalo pallet sign for indoors or outdoors. Materials are provided and the class fee is $15. Space is limited. Call 652-5544 to register.

SHORT TERM

Baseball and Softball Registration-East Aurora baseball and softball registration for the 2020 season is now open. Participants must be between the ages of 5 and 18. Register online at eabaseball.com by the April 4 deadline.

Envirothon-The Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District will host the Erie County Envirothon on April 2 and April 30 at the Village Green Park in Elma. Winners will advance to the state competition in Geneva on May 27 and 28. It is open to all students in grades 9 through 12. Student teams may be formed from a high school, BOCES, 4-H Club, FFA Club, members of sovereign Native American Nations Schools, home schools, or any other sanctioned local, regional, state or nationally recognized club that sponsors youth in grades 9 through 12. Holland Community Library Story Hour-The Holland Community Library Story Hour, for children ages 2 to 7, will run each Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. from Jan. 27 to April 6. Kindergarten Registration-The Iroquois Central School District will hold kindergarten registration on March 20 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. at the following locations: Elma Primary, 711 Rice Road in Elma; Marilla Primary, 11683 Bullis Road in Marilla; and Wales Primary, 4650 Woodchuck Road in East Aurora. Incoming kindergarten students must be born before Dec. 1, 2015. The child does not need to be present for a parent to register him or her. West Falls/Colden Community Library Story Hour-The West Falls/Colden Community Library Preschool Story Hour, for children ages 3 to 5, will resume every Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the library, located at 1966 Davis Road in West Falls. Bring your children, grandchildren or kids you babysit to enjoy age relevant stories and lessons. Story hour is free. Call 652-5544 for additional information.

The Abigails – The Abigails will meet at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 345 Main St., on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas decorations for the Millard Fillmore House Christmas Sale are always accepted. Aurora Adult Day Services – The mission of Aurora Adult Day Services (AADS) is to improve the quality of life for functionally impaired adults who are unable to be left alone and to offer respite to their caregivers. AADS is open Mon.-Fri. 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., 101 King St., Suite B. A free visit can be arranged by calling 652-4269. Website is www.auroraadultdayservices.org. Transportation available. AADS is “Helping families stay together.”

Bereavement Support Circle-The Bereavement Support Circle will begin meeting on the fourth Monday of each month, from 6 to 8 p.m. It is open to anyone who has lost a loved one through death. Caring for the Caregiver – Are you a full-time caregiver to a loved one? Would you enjoy some free time to yourself? Community-based Caring for the Caregiver provides just that. Dementia Caregiver Support Group – Providing care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease can be stressful and isolating, but support groups can provide coping tools and a welcoming embrace from others in the same position. On the 3rd Tuesday of every month, you can find that support in Elma United Methodist Church at 2991 Bowen Road in Elma. The group meets at 6 p.m. and welcomes all dementia caregivers. East Aurora Kiwanis Club – The East Aurora Kiwanis Club meets at The Roycroft Inn the 2nd, 3rd and last Thursday of each month at noon. Those interested in membership should contact Ed Duetsch by emailing ejd@thepottergroup.com or by calling 716-983-5447.

FISH of East Aurora, Inc. – FISH of East Aurora, Inc., located at 960 East Main St., is a charitable organization providing free services to low-income families in the Southtowns. It is open each week on Tues. and Thurs. from 9 a.m.- noon for donations. The Food Pantry and clothing ministry is open from 1- 3 p.m. Food distribution is from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Sat. of each month. Free Respite Care and Dementia Caregiving –Baker Community Respite Care Program is offered the 2nd Thursday and 4th Wednesday of each month at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 345 Main Street, East Aurora. If you are a dementia caregiver and want your loved one to participate in our free program so that you can take a much deserved break, simply pre-register with the Church office, 652-0500, ext. 102. Volunteers to work the program in all areas including guest buddy, kitchen, crafts and music are always needed. Please contact Michele at respitecare@bakerchurch.org.

Free Respite Care – The Holland United Methodist Church, 11699 Partridge Road, offers a Free Respite Program for caregivers of loved ones with dementia the 1st Thursday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration is required. Call 716-388-3150.

Holland Clothing Closet-The Holland Clothing Closet offers free, clean, quality clothing for the entire family. Located at Hunters Creek Bible Baptist Church, 7184 Hunters Creek Road, in Holland, there is something for men, women, teens and children. It is open before and after Sunday and Thursday services. Immanuel Quilters – Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday morning, from September through May, at 9 a.m. to noon, Immanuel Quilters meet in the undercroft at Immanuel Lutheran Church at the corner of Pine and Fillmore (behind Vidler’s 5&10). We make quilts for many purposes, and anyone is welcome. Cutting, sewing and quilting gives us the opportunity to give to those in need, those who need comfort, or for our Veterans. Memory Cafe– The West Falls Center for the Arts will host a free Memory Café on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a gathering place for friends with Alzheimer’s or dementia along with their caregivers, to relax and enjoy socialization, refreshments, discussion and entertainment. Walk-ins are welcome, but an RSVP is appreciated. The Memory Café is funded in part by the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. New Paths Redistribution Center – Large furniture and appliances available for people in need with many ways to pay. The ROC is located at 730 Olean Road on Route 16, across from Masterson’s Nursery and is open Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. and by appointment. Portrait Group – Do you like to draw and paint? Come to our East Aurora Portrait Group, at the Senior Center on King Street, Fridays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. This is an open group, not a class. All skill levels and mediums are welcome. We have models sitting for us, with coffee breaks in between, and the members chip in a small fee to pay them $40 for modeling. Come and sketch or paint, or sign up to be a portrait model. We encourage all types and ages to pose for us. Call Kurt at 949-8513 if you have a question.

Rotary Club of East Aurora – The Rotary Club of East Aurora meets Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at The Roycroft Inn. Meetings include guest speakers and visitors are welcome.

Rural Transit Service – Rural Transit Service provides free transportation to seniors, disabled and low/moderate income families. Donations are greatly appreciated but not required. Volunteers are needed to drive the RTS van or dispatch at one of the sites. Call 716-662-8378 for information.

St. Matthias Pet Food Pantry – The St. Matthias Pet Food Pantry, a 501 c (3) organization located in the church at 374 Main St., distributes dog and cat food to needy pets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. Please bring your benefits card and a photo ID.

Town of Aurora Deomcratic Committee-The Town of Aurora Deomcratic Committee meets monthly at the Town of Aurora Senior Center, 101 King St. With the exception of Election Day, the committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in running for office, helping a campaign or in just understanding what’s happening politically in the community, you can learn more by attending our open monthly meetings. All are welcomed.
