Chickens and rabbit perish in fire




<p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>SHELDON — A family’s chickens and a rabbit died in a fire Tuesday evening, Feb. 20, when an overheated lamp sparked a blaze at 2755 North Sheldon Road, according to the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>No other injuries were reported in the fire.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>Crews from Sheldon, Strykersville, Bennington, Harris Corners, Holland and Wales Center fire departments were on scene for three-and-one-half hours battling the blaze. Assisting at the scene were Wyoming County Emergency Management, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police. Fire chief in charge was Sheldon Chief Rick Brzezicki Jr.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>Standing by at empty stations were the Arcade Fire Department and Bennington Fire Company.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>Also lost in the blaze were a snowmobile, UTV and tools. Estimated damages are $125,000.</span></p>
