Column: Rod, Gun and Game: When Kids Scream, FISH ON! This Saturday.


The bright red and white round bobber was floating perfectly on the water surface. The light wind moved the line and bobber slightly along in a slow drift. Then suddenly, the bobber wiggled. It jumped down below the water level, then back up again, then it went down and disappeared. 

"Pull the rod, reel the line," my dad said. 

I was just four and one-half years old. When I tried to turn the reel handle, I had the rod upside down, and it would not move.
