Community Invited to Participate in Library Art ProjectFree Access

A new community-inspired art project hosted by the Aurora Town Public Library is called “I Red It at the Library!”

No, that is not a typographical error in the title. The phrase “RED it” refers to the featured color in this multi-age community art project.

The library staff wanted to design a project that would bring people together after being apart for so much of the past year. Every participant will create a paper cube based on a favorite book. Individual cubes will become part of a large piece of Op Art to be displayed in the library lobby during the month of August. Each one-dimensional cube has a bright red base which will help to tie the whole piece together.

Aurora Town Librarian Jan Siebold created this “cube” to showcase the book “Sylvester and the Magic Pebble.” It is an example of the crafts the community is asked to design for a library project.

The term Op Art refers to the “Optical Art” movement that began in the 1960s and incorporates shapes, colors and patterns to create visual illusions.

The choice of art medium is up to the individual artist. Part of the fun will be to discover how each artist interprets and completes the challenge. The project is designed to be a celebration of people’s unique perspectives and talent as well as a celebration of the community.

Children and adults, starting at 6-years-old and above,  are invited to participate in this free art project sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Patrons of all artistic skill levels are welcome. Registration is required. Visit the Aurora Town Public Library at 550 Main Street or call 652-4440 to sign up.

Beginning July 8, participants will be contacted to pick up their packets which will include instructions and deadline information. All registrants who turn in a completed cube will be entered in a drawing to win a bag of art supplies as a thank you for contributing to the community’s “I Red It at the Library” work of art.
