David R. Campbell, Marine Corps veteran

<p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>David R. Campbell, of Perry, died Tuesday Jan. 10, 2018 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home in Perry. He was 82.<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span></span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>David was born Feb. 13, 1935 in New Albany, Indiana, a son to the late Arthur and Carrie (Toops) Campbell.<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span></span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>He was a graduate of New Albany High School, received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Louisville and received his masters in education at Indiana University.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 until his discharge in 1954.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>He worked in the education field for over 30 years, beginning his career as a school teacher and working his way up to high school guidance counselor at Watertown High School. He retired in 1996.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>He was a member of the East Pitcairn Wesleyan Church in Harrisville in Lewis County, and after moving to Perry, became a member at the Baptist Church of Perry. He was an active member at his churches, teaching Sunday School, being a part of Bible study, the church choir, a deacon and an usher.<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span></span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>He enjoyed constructing and flying model airplanes, boating, fishing, and watching high school and college basketball games. As a teenager and young adult, he was an accomplished table tennis player who won many championships.<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span></span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>David was a family man who invested most of his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed telling stories and loved to laugh.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>Along with his parents, he was predeceased by five siblings, Virginia Skipper, Lois Summers, and Gayle, Paul and Roy Campbell.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Chamberlain) Campbell, whom he married Feb. 14, 1958; two children, Jennifer (David) Biggs of Cochranton, Pennsylvania and Todd (Angela) Campbell of Perry, five grandchildren: Conner and Collette Biggs, Brennen, Tyler and Cameron Campbell; a brother, Gordon D. Campbell of Chelsea, Michigan; along with many nieces and nephews.</span></p><p class=”p1″><span class=”s1″>Funeral services were held Monday Jan. 15 at the Baptist Church of Perry.
