Film Society to Screen Italian Romantic Comedy Free Access

The Roycroft Film Society will host a screening of the Italian comedy Bread and Tulips at the Roycroft Power House.

The film is directed by Silvio Soldini and stars Licia Maglietta as Rosalba, a middle-aged housewife who finds herself stranded during a family vacation. Instead of waiting for her controlling husband, who is in no hurry for her return, she decides to continue her vacation on her own, detouring to Venice.

In the serene city, Rosalba meets a variety of colorful characters, finds a place to stay and happens upon a job. Meanwhile, her husband sends a bumbling plumber and want-to-be detective to find her, but perhaps she doesn’t want to be found. It is a warmhearted story of love, family, and friendship.

Bread and Tulips would go on to win nine Donatello Awards, the Italian version of the Oscars, including best picture, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress and director. The Italians say this is one of their favorite films of this century, and they are not without reason. Bread and Tulips will be shown on Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Roycroft Power House, 39 South Grove St., East Aurora.

The Roycroft Film Society is a not-for-profit division of the Roycroft Campus and has been providing art films to the area for over25 years.
