School district voters can head to the polls this Tuesday, May 21 to vote on the proposed school budgets and school board candidates.

Below is the outline for ballots at East Aurora, Holland and Iroquois. Links for additional coverage on the budgets is also below. 

East Aurora

The vote will be held at the Middle School cafeteria. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There are three propositions on this year’s East Aurora school ballot. The first is for the $36.3 million budget.

The second proposition is a request to establish a technology reserve fund to help finance the improvement or replacement of technology related items.

The third proposition is a request to create a capital improvement reserve fund. This would be used to help finance construction or renovation of school buildings.

There are three candidates seeking the two available seats on the school board. Incumbents Judy Malys and Terri Ohlweiler are again running for seats on the board, and Kathyann Queeno, a former school board member, is also in the running. People will be able to vote for two candidates. Each seat is a three-year term.

Holland

The vote will take place at the Holland Jr/Sr. High School Gymnasium on Canada Street. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The first proposition is for a $20.5 million spending plan for the 2019-2020 budget.

The second proposition is to purchase school buses and similar vehicles. The district is aiming to spend a maximum of $224,590 for these vehicles. The district owns its vehicles used for transporting students.

A third proposition would give the district approval to spend $2.26 million for a capital project. Much of the money will go to repairs and upgrades at the Middle School.

Only one person is up for election on the school board and that is Mary Jo Szucs. She is seeking re-election to her five-year seat.

Iroquois

Voters in Iroquois will vote at the Iroquois Intermediate Building gymnasium on Girdle Road. They can vote from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The budget proposition is for a 2019-2020 spending plan of $52.2 million.

The district’s second proposition is to gain approval to spend up to $486,796 for new vehicles. This would include four, 63-passenger buses and a cutaway bus.

For the third proposition, the district is asking to spend $150,000 from its Technology Reserve Account. This is to buy computer hardware and software.

School board member Charles Specht is again seeking re-election. There are no other challengers on the ballot. This is a five-year term.
