Lady Chiefs Dominate at Depew Holiday Tourney

The Iroquois Lady Chiefs powered through the Depew Holiday Tournament by dismantling the host Depew Wildcats, 72-25, in the opening round and then claiming the championship with a 70-27 shellacking of Newfane.

Iroquois’ co-captain Meghan Porzio was named tournament MVP and Emily McLaughlin earned a position on the all-tournament team. While averaging 70 points or better is a remarkable feat, the Lady Chiefs’ defensive performance was equally impressive, considering that in eight quarters over the two games, coach Steve Sokolski’s girls gave up double figures only once.

Porzio led all scorers with 25 points against Depew and 16 against Newfane. Sarah Wittek swiped 21 rebounds in the opener, while co-captain Logan Streety grabbed 14.

The wins put Iroquois at 7-2 halfway through the season with lots of ECIC Division III action on tap after New Year’s.
