Letter to the Editor: Fillmore Does Not Hold a Candle to Other Village Residents

Last night I sat down to read Robert Lowell Goller’s book, Legendary Locals of East Aurora. When I turned to page 38, there was a short history of Millard Fillmore. Goller states “Fillmore is considered one of the least known presidents. His signing of the Compromise of 1850, which included the controversial Fugitive Slave Law, postponed the Civil War for a decade, but angered Northern abolitionists.
