Neighbor discovers early morning fire




<p class=”p1″>JAVA — An early morning fire Thursday, May 31 is said to have caused approximately $300,000 in damages to a 5834 Route 98 property.</p><p class=”p1″>The fire was discovered by a neighbor, according to a report from Wyoming County Emergency Management. Wyoming County Dispatch received a call around 4:04 a.m. regarding the fire, and when firefighters arrived, they found a 48- by 50-foot barn totally engulfed in flames. The barn housed many antique vehicles, as well as tools, lawnmowers and recreational vehicles.<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span></p><p class=”p1″>Firefighters kept the damage to the nearby house to a minimum.</p><p class=”p1″>Strykersville Fire Chief Brian Ash was the fire chief in charge, and crews were on the scene for four-and-one-half hour. Companies on scene included Strykersville, Arcade, North Java and Sheldon. Assisting at the scene were Wyoming County Emergency Management, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, State Police and Strykersville Rescue Squad 10.<span class=”Apple-converted-space”> </span></p><p class=”p1″>There were no injuries reported.
