New Owner Takes Over Salon

New Business Owner

During August of 2017, Melody Gerhardt, owner of Melody’s Salon in the Village, approached Sarah Eschborn about the proposition of taking over the salon. Gerhardt wanted to spend more time with her grandchildren and felt it was time to pass the torch.

After working as a stylist for Gerhardt for 12 years, Eschborn was excited about the prospect of becoming the new owner.

With the support of her husband Jake and her two children, Kyleigh,11, and Jacob, 9, they purchased the building and business and renamed the salon Sarah Ann’s Salon & Spa as of March 1.

Eschborn has kept all of the same staff – including nine stylists, two receptionists, and one aesthetician – and added a massage therapist. Gerhardt continues to work at the salon three times a week. Eschborn says her coworkers are a tight-knit group, saying work is like working with family.

Prior to working at the salon, Eschborn worked at Supercuts for a few months and moved on to study under Patrick Donovan at Donovan and Company in East Aurora and worked there for three years until he decided to move his salon to Hamburg.

After that she stayed with Gerhardt and her team because she wanted to stay in East Aurora. Her home is located on Oakwood Avenue and she loves being a part of East Aurora.

“I shop local and hardly ever leave town,” she said.

Eschborn does not plan to make many changes to the salon. One new service offered is called “Lash Lifting.” This is where a person has their own natural lashes placed in a semi-permanent curl that will last six weeks. This service takes about 45 minutes and is available for $50 through May, after that it will cost $60.

Eschborn says that the transition has been smooth, the only challenge is being boss to people who are her friends but she hasn’t encountered any problems yet. For the most part, she hasn’t changed the services at the salon because “We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. This place has been a fully functioning very well established salon for 17 years.”

One change she will be making to the salon is painting the downstairs a nice light grey to keep it more neutral and make the space seem more open.

Eschborn is not holding a grand opening but she will be have a customer appreciation week at the end of May where she will be giving away some products and gift certificates for services. The event will be posted on the Salon’s Facebook page.

Sarah Ann’s Salon & Spa is located at 707 Main St. For more information, call 716-655-9739. The salon offers a wide range of services including manicures and pedicures, facials, body wraps, hair removal, and massage therapy in addition to hair services.
