New Owners Make Changes at The Deli

East Aurora is known for its small-town, friendly vibe – and it seems like the new owners of The Deli are fitting right in.

Ed & Kristin Borzillieri make you feel like they’ve invited you into their home – and they want to feed you fresh, honest, homemade meals. They are genuinely interested in you; feeding your soul and your belly before they send you on your way with a friendly “come back and see us again soon.”

The Borzillieris are born and bred in Buffalo; Ed grew up on the eastside, and Kristin in Cheektowaga. Both have fond memories of the corner delis from their childhood where they could get authentic, good quality sandwiches and baked goods. Long time residents of West Seneca, they raised four children together and pursued separate careers. When the opportunity to take over The Deli in East Aurora came along, they both knew the town was a great setting for the kind of deli they have always wanted to run.

“There is not a nicer village in Western New York. This is a close knit community, with fantastic people, in a great setting. It’s the people that make the town, and it just happens to be in a gorgeous setting,” Ed said. “We’re just trying to bring as much homemade food, for people who don’t necessarily have time. We’re doing meals to go; people are picking up sandwiches for dinner, they’re picking up sauce and meatballs for dinner, or components to make dinner – because everybody is on the go, and people don’t want fast food, they want homemade food. That’s what we’re doing here.”

The focus of family is evident in each part of the business. Their children and nephews help out behind the counter. Family and friends offer assistance in any way they can. The sauce and meatballs are made from a family recipe handed down from generation to generation. Kristin credits her mother-in-law for the recipes of the baked goods she makes daily in the store. Ed speaks of learning how to cook from his mother at a young age; her picture hangs on the wall across from the deli counter – in a sense, keeping watch over all the comings and goings.

“My mother’s motto was ‘If you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault’ – so we keep that,” he said. “We couldn’t do it without our family. We’re a family business, and hopefully, we treat people who come here like family as well.”

The Deli is open Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 3pm and is located at 586 Main St, behind Beauty Organix and next to Hoffman School of Dance. For more information, visit the Facebook page www.facebook.com/thedeliea or call (716)655-1383.
