Not Afraid to Dye: Slow Color, and Honoring the Plant

In the world of textiles, bright colors rule, along with “fast fashion,” mass-produced goods speedily dispatched worldwide to fashion clearing houses and production facilities, designed to move as quickly and cheaply as possible to their retail destinations. Commercially prepared chemical dyes, formulated to achieve fast, consistent colors in predictable dye lots that can be easily replicated based on consumer demand are the standard.
