Obituary: Frederick J. Brown, Decorated Naval Veteran, Beloved Father

Frederick J. Brown of Delevan, known to his family and friends as Fred died at home on Wednesday, March 16. He was 72.

Mr. Brown was born in Buffalo on Feb. 23, 1950, the son of the late Gerald J. Brown and June M. Miller Schuman of Lockport.

He graduated from Iroquois Central High School in 1968, where he excelled in wrestling, even making it to the State Championships. 

After graduation, Mr. Brown joined the US Navy and served in Vietnam on the USS Stanly and the USS Yellowstone. He earned the rank of Boatswain Mate 3, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal before being honorably discharged in 1972. 

Upon returning home, Mr. Brown went to work maintaining the machinery at Fisher-Price in Holland, retiring after twenty years. 

He enjoyed riding his bike, fishing, hunting, and hanging out with friends. 

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy Brown, his wife Gerri Brown, and stepfather Bob Schuman.

Mr. Brown is survived by his son Eric Brown of Watertown; sisters Jeanette Gillogly of Cornelius, N.C., Bonnie (Pat) Smith of Appleton and Lori Brown of Warsaw; brother Richard (Jennifer) Brown of Wethersfield;  and several nieces and nephews. 

A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Burial will take place in the spring at the National Cemetery in Pembroke.
