Obituary: William S. McClure, Beloved Brother, Father, Friend

William Scott McClure, a longtime resident of East Aurora and Sarasota, Fla., died unexpectedly on Friday, April 12. He was 60.

Known as Bill or Billy, Mr. McClure was born on Jan. 12, 1959 in Buffalo, the son of Allison Joseph and Rosemary McClure.

A 1977 graduate of East Aurora High School, Mr. McClure was a natural athlete excelling in sports. He thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie it provided him with his close friends and family. He played football, basketball and baseball in high school. As a father, he enjoyed watching his son play football.

After high school, Mr. McClure joined the Coast Guard. He was stationed in Sandusky, Ohio, where he met his former wife.

He settled in Sarasota, Fla. in 1984 and worked at several prestigious golf courses. He became an avid and accomplished golfer as a result. He later worked for American Van Lines in Sarasota.

Mr. McClure moved back to East Aurora in 2006 and worked at Vintage Motion Race Shop and The East Aurora Country Club.

Mr. McClure is survived by his son Scott Thomas McClure; granddaughter Ella Lynn; stepson Travis Sammons; brother Robert McClure; sisters Suzanne (Glen) Winans, Mary Elizabeth (Bruce) Barbour, Kathleen (Tim) Lafferty, Marjorie McClure, Patricia (late Randy) Redd, Joanne (Robert) Manning, Margaret (Stanley) Rachwal, Carolyn (Joe) Prunier and Laurie (Phillip) Arnold; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

His daughter Stephanie Lynn McClure predeceases him.

The family will hold a memorial service at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 520 Oakwood Ave., East Aurora, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at Wallenwein’s Hotel, 641 Oakwood Ave., East Aurora.
