The cross country ski event at Knox will be Jan. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon, while the snowshoe day is Sunday, Jan. 5 from 9 to 11 a.m.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. is a Winter Tree ID hike. Identifying tree species in winter can be an exciting challenge. Hone your skills and learn to identify trees based on their shape, bark and twigs.

Later that same day, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. is the Winter Buds indoor workshop. People will learn to identify trees based on their twigs and buds, a handy skill to know on a winter walk.

On Sunday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon is the Great Backyard Bird Count. This annual citizen science project invites birders, of all ages and skill, to count birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations.

A Winter Weeds walk is planned for Sunday, Feb. 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The greens of summer have long been gone, yet many of our favorite plants remain. Do you recognize them? Join the group for a hike to learn some of the common winter weeds.
