Students Earn Academic Scholarships To Medaille

High school sports have long celebrated the commitment of a student-athlete to a particular college to continue their playing career. For Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, celebrating commitments made by Career and Technical Education students to continue on to higher education in their respective fields shares equal importance.

Recently, the Ormsby Educational Center in East Aurora acknowledged four students enrolled in the Small or Small/Large Animal Science program for their decision to sign with Medaille College.

“I knew I always wanted to go to college for Animal Science and I knew the classes at Ormsby would help me get a basic education before I went to college,” Abigail Neumann, who is enrolled in the program and attends the Baker Road Educational Center, said in a news release. “Honestly, this class has helped a lot. I feel like if I didn’t go to Ormsby it would have been more of a struggle entering Medaille. This gave me the base knowledge I needed to prepare.”

Students Alyssa Ignatowski and Hans Ingelfinger of East Aurora, Sophia Dolce of Orchard Park, and Abigail Neumann of Wilson/Baker Road each earned a $22,000 per year scholarship from Medaille, as well as an additional $1,500 scholarship per year for attending a BOCES program.

“It’s exciting to receive an almost-full-ride scholarship to Medaille,” said Hans Ingelfinger. “I can do what I love and I don’t have to worry about my finances.”

Kristine Buck, Assistant Director of Undergrad Admissions for Medaille, joined students for the signing ceremony, presented swag bags and offered a warm welcome to the newly signed students.

“Students who go through a Small or Small/Large Animal Science CTE program are definitely going to have a leg up because they’ll be exposed to information as opposed to a student who has never had any awareness before,” she said in the same news release. “The relationships they’re forming at Ormsby and the information they’re learning about their field is only going to help them further their career and decision in what they’d like to do. They are great students.”
