Town Of Holland Summer Recreation Opens

Families in the Town of Holland will be pleased to know that the Town of Holland Summer Recreation program kicked off on Monday, July 13.

“The program will run July 13 through Aug. 13, 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday,” Holland Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Brian Tavernier said. “No drop-ins will be allowed; all youth must be pre-registered. Children who have just completed first grade through seventh grade are eligible to participate.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Holland will once again administer the program at the Vermont Street facility, Tavernier confirmed.

“The program looks different than in years past due to COVID-19 guidelines that are being adhered to,” Tavernier added. “The goal is to keep everyone – staff, members and families – safe and healthy. As the program reopens, the boys and girls club has broken down their enhanced safety protocols into the following five areas of focus: health and wellness of our members and staff (health screenings); increased handwashing and sanitizing protocols; increased facility maintenance and cleaning; best practices for social distancing in the club setting; and reduction in group sizes and interactions with an increase in staff-to-member ratios.”

The youth will be broken up into “pods” of 10, and will be assigned two staff members that they will remain with throughout the week; these groups will not interact with the other groups. Staff members will be required to wear masks, however, kids are not required to wear a mask. Frequent handwashing will be scheduled throughout the two hours they are there, and in-vehicle health assessments and temperature checks will be conducted each morning.

Registration forms and waivers are available in an envelope attached to the front door of the club on Vermont Street, for those who need a printed copy. Completed forms can be mailed, emailed, or returned to the club.

The summer recreation program is sponsored by the Town of Holland and is therefore free to participate in for town residents.

Call the club at 537-9370 with any questions.
