Warsaw hotel site plan under review

The developer for the forthcoming hotel in Warsaw has turned over the site plan to the village, which will now be reviewed by the county and Warsaw planning boards.

Mayor Joe Robinson provided an update on the hotel Monday, Aug. 6, at the Warsaw Village Board meeting. He said a public hearing for the property will tentatively be held next month.

“The site plan from the Indus (Hospitality) Group has been delivered to the Village of Warsaw; it was delivered 10 days ago,” Robinson said. “This evening, the Wyoming County Planning Board is reviewing that site plan and will be issuing recommendations back to the village.

“The next step for the site plan review will be review by the combined (Warsaw) Village and Town Planning Board, which I believe will take place tomorrow night. They will also offer recommendations, as there are variances that are required with the construction.”

Robinson did not specify what those variances are.

Warsaw is able to build an approximate $5 million, two-story hotel, thanks in part to securing a $1 million grant from the state. Indus will be investing the remainder of the funds. The hotel will be located on North Main Street at the former Manor Oak nursing home that has become a major eyesore for the community. That facility will be torn down to make room for the hotel.

“These recommendations, these comments that the County Planning Board will make and the Town and Village Planning Board will make, will be passed along to the joint Town and Village Zoning Board of Appeals,” Robinson continued. “The Zoning Board of Appeals will be setting a date for a public hearing. I anticipate that that public hearing will be occurring somewhere in the first week of September — at least that’s a tentative timeline.”

During the hearing, village officials will accept comments from residents and also act upon comments from the planning boards, the mayor said.

Robinson added that the village is looking forward to moving forward with the hotel construction process. He said Indus is a “great company to work with” and is very experienced with hotel development.

In other news:

• Trisha Morris-Kopinski of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce was at the meeting to thank the village for its support of the Valley Fest event.

• The village approved training for Water Department employee Steve Reisdorf from the New York Rural Water Association in the amount of $100.

• Anna Rose was appointed as a per-diem court clerk.
