With the legalization of cannabis in New York State, dispensaries and other new industries will soon be opening across the region. To get a sense of what our region might expect, this newspaper will publish a series of articles highlighting communities in Oregon where the drug was first legalized in 2016 and the industries and laws that soon followed. Jonathan Penfold, an Iroquois Central School graduate, has lived in Oregon for over a decade and is reporting on the subject.
The Holland Town Board has agreed to contract with Waste Management for “WM at Your Door,” in addition to agreeing to review ordinances regarding specific zoning classifications.
The Village of East Aurora adjusted its decision regarding allowing cannabis consumption and dispensaries in the village at its public hearing on Monday evening.
The Holland town board met on Oct. 13, where they voted to opt-out of allowing cannabis dispensaries.
After hearing comments from citizens, the East Aurora Village Board has agreed to re-visit its previous decision to allow dispensaries and consumption sites within the village limits by voting to not “opt-out” under the terms of the recent NYS legalization.
The crowd was small but their message was loud: residents in the Town of Wales do not want cannabis dispensaries or cannabis smoking lounges in town.
