The reserve fund was created in 2012 by a previous board. Its discovery was prompted by a council member’s suggestion that a reserve be created to help resolve the stalled proposal for the Marilla Historical Society last month.
The project was initially approved by the board in January 2019 after asking the society to vacate the town hall to make room for the post office. Funding is available for construction but the project has stalled, with the supervisor citing concerns about future economy as his main reason for the delay.
All town employees and elected officials will receive a 5% salary increase, except for the justices and the court clerk. The decision to exclude the court was the subject of disagreement within the board.
Over a dozen supporters of the Boys and Girls Club of Elma Marilla Wales donned matching shirts at a recent Town of Marilla work session following remarks made by the town supervisor about the organization, spurring a public apology and the possibility of additional funding from the town’s federal American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The Town of Marilla Supervisor is eyeing reducing funding to service organizations that he feels are unnecessary. This includes the EMW Boys and Girls Club and Marilla Free Library.
