Spotlight: Zeller Finds the Fun Among Fletchings
Bryan Zeller, a 56-year-old volunteer firefighter and EMS technician who is a skilled championship archer with a welcoming purpose: to share. About 10 years ago, Zeller created a social platform to help others learn about the fun of archery. His adult “Learn-To-Shoot” archery program has become a recreational staple for residents in the East Aurora community and beyond.

Waldorf Students Gain Lessons From the Garden
Before school was out in mid-June, Walford students got to taste lettuce, chives, sage flowers, peas, and thyme from the garden they helped start during their gardening program this spring. Families have committed to watering the garden over the summer, and the class looks forward to a bountiful fall harvest in September.

Spotlight on Emily Lewis
East Aurora Class of 2016 Emily Lewis enrolled at Stony Brook University in studying biology and minoring in Spanish before her main interest began to turn towards the study of nutrition. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Clinical Nutrition.

Expanded Summer School Options Considered for Local Districts
Holland, Iroquois and East Aurora Schools are all in the process of finalizing individual summer school programs and deciding what will be offered. Each district is hoping to get information out to parents soon so that families can plan out the rest of their summer months.

School Budget Ready for District Wide Vote in May
This May, Iroquois Central School residents will be able to vote on the nearly $54 million spending plan proposed by the school board. It will not go over the property tax cap and it closes the revenue and expense gap that was part of an earlier plan. Iroquois Business Administrator John Wolski said the school has received its largest increase in aid from the state in the past 10 years. It was over 2 percent more than expected.



School Making Adjustments to Improve Popular Program
Iroquois Central School District is working on efforts to update and change its Business Academy for students. Current plans are to find ways to reach additional students in the school who might be interested in some of the programs.


Early Budget Proposal Discussions for Holland Central Continue
Budget talks continue at Holland Central School. The Holland Central School Board will next meet on Monday, March 15 for a budget work session and special meeting.


School Board Voices Concerns with Tax Levy Proposal for Next Year
The East Aurora school district is beginning to prepare a final budget proposal for the 2021 to 2022 school year and increasing staffing at all three buildings dominates the list. In addition to full-time teaching positions, a literary coach and a STEAM specialist are under consideration.
