From now until next year’s Arbor Day four ambitious Girl Scouts will be out and about measuring candidates in parks and other public places to promote awareness of trees as part of their Silver Award requirement. they’re asking for all of us to get in on the fun in the Aurora Biggest Tree Contest.
Seven local scouts from Girls Scouts Cadette Troop #30266, with the assistance of their fathers, recently built a 20-foot bridge across a creek on the Yellow Trail at Camp Seven Hills Lakeside.
Over the past winter, East Aurora resident Isabelle Larson earned her Girl Scout Gold Award with the creation of 120 educational activities for young children which were sent to schools in Western New York, as well to children in a remote area of Tanzania in east Africa.
Emily Gordon of Elma, a senior at Iroquois High School, recently achieved the Gold Award through Girl Scouts of America. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn. Since 1916, it has stood for excellence and leadership for girls everywhere, according to the Girl Scouts website.
