In March 2021, construction began on the Empire State Line, a new 20-mile 345 kV transmission line crossing through five towns in Erie and Niagara counties. Upon completion later this month the line will disburse renewable energy through the region’s infrastructure. We looked into what this could mean for the state’s target of eliminating gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035 under the NYS Climate Act with an examination of EVs and realities of charging here close to home.
